Tools - Execution Excellence Part III

As the level of activity within the energy industry begins to rise, organization have a unique opportunity to improve the way they execute work. This represents an opportunity to rethink, retool and rebuild how work is performed. People, process and tools are the formula to delivering exceptional productivity and quality. Automation is a crucial part of the equation. Automation drives efficiency and quality.

Automation can take many forms and functions. Automation can be incorporated into business process management tools, commonly known as workflows. Workflows reinforce a standardized process, facilitate communication & progress management and create an audit trail. Workflows inherently enhance project insight through ball-in-court reporting, searchable actions, and communication receipts. These tools are indispensable for large, complex infrastructure projects with multiple companies and hundreds of team members creating large volumes of information exchanges, decisions and verifications.

Automation tools are also critical to the production of drawings deliverables. Advancements in this arena have drastically shed production time and improved quality. The quality control for automated drawings begins with standardizing the raw data input at the start. This standardization is not a limiter, but rather a means of defining data types. The automation can be applied to various engineering drawings such as P&ID’s, ISO’s, Piping Drawings, Alignment Sheets, Plan & Profiles, etc. Use of automation standardizes the output as well, by applying templates, styles, and formatting to create a uniform drawing time and time again. Automation also allows for changes to be introduced and entire sets of drawings to be recreated rapidly.

As previously mentioned, people and processes are equally critical to delivering exceptional productivity and quality. However, effective deliverable production requires automation tools to be competitive in today’s environment. Traditional methods are not capable of delivering the required volume, quality or speed in today’s “first-to-market” reality. The time to automate is now. As the industry’s project load returns, teams will be required to grow and automating tasks allows you to do more with less. Automation is also crucial to producing deliverables that meet regulatory requirements of traceable, verifiable, complete and auditable. So what are some ways you plan on automating processes? We offer a range of tools designed specifically for the engineering & construction needs of infrastructure —ask us about our latest software today!
